The government has been using land for public service development projects, as the city grows over time and the number of its residents increases. In order to ensure that these activities are carried out successfully, it is necessary to clearly identify the parties with the authority and responsibility to pay compensation and resettlement support for the redevelopment of urban land for housing construction, infrastructure development, investment and other services, and to determine the conditions under which land acquisition is carried out for the public interest and the conditions under which the resettled persons will be resettled. Proclamation No. 1161/2011, issued by the Council of Ministers, regarding compensation and resettlement for the redevelopment of land for the public interest. 472/2012 and the Addis Ababa City Administration issued Directive No. 79/2014 on the Compensation and Replacement of Land Occupiers and the Re-establishment of Development Occupiers when Land is Occupied for Public Purpose.
Any person who has received an order to vacate land or whose rights or interests in the property have been affected by the above-mentioned laws may submit a complaint to the Complaints Hearing Board within 30 (thirty) days of receiving the order.
